A State Licence applies to medium businesses (turnover Rs. 12 lakhs to Rs. 20 crore or with specific manufacturing activities). A Central Licence applies to large businesses, exporters, importers, and those operating across multiple states.
No. Operating without FSSAI authorisation can result in penalties of up to Rs. 5 lakhs, business closure, and criminal prosecution. All food businesses — however small — must have valid FSSAI authorisation.
FSSAI Registration and Licences are issued for a period of 1 to 5 years at the applicant's choice. Renewal must be applied for at least 30 days before expiry to avoid late fees and business disruption.
Yes. The 14-digit FSSAI Licence or Registration number must be prominently displayed on all food product labels, packaging, menus, and at the business premises. Failure to display the number is an offence.
